The early origins of the company come from when Yutaka Kubota and his Japanese colleagues engaged in the development of power stations on the Korean Peninsula over several years prior to 1945. They worked on the Suiho Dam and Supung Hydropower Station on the Yalu River, which flows along the border of North Korea and China. The Supung Hydropower Plant was at the time one of the world's largest dams, and it contributed to the growth of economic activities and nation building from the Korean peninsula to northeastern China. They also worked on other power developments, railways, and water conveyance projects.

In Sept 1946, amid the postwar turmoil, Nippon Koei, was formed to provide a home office for skilled engineers to make the most of their pre-war experience, and also to achieve national reconstruction. The zeal of Yutaka Kubota and the other returning engineers to rebuild their homeland became the cornerstone of today's Nippon Koei.

Even as he devoted his efforts to restoring Japan's devastated infrastructure and electrical power business, Yutaka Kubota, one of the founders of Nippon Koei, had the vision to expand the operations to reconstruction of war-ravaged countries abroad. The other engineers in the group were inspired by Kubota's zeal. Kubota urged them to concentrate wholeheartedly on fulfilling their projects "in good faith" and he taught them that, provided they undertook tasks with sincerity, a way would always open up. Such attitude bore fruit, leading to an order for a power generation project in Burma (present-day Myanmar), their first overseas operation.

Although many engineers entered Nippon Koei in these times simply to earn a livelihood, they soon came under the influence of Mr. Kubota's way of thinking of their work as a calling to contribute to the global society. Mr. Kubota's conviction was that that sincerity was the key to achieving goals. He would often say, "Tackle your problems with sincerity and the road ahead shall be clear".

Our company has now been operating for over half a century. Our fields of expertise and the scale of projects we take on have vastly expanded. However, one thing that has not changed is that the spirit instilled in the company by its founder continues to live on.
