By spinning a scaled model through centrifuge loading system and apparently applying a gravitational force to the scaled model using the centrifugal force, the same stress-strain condition at the similar point in the scaled model can be produced as that in the prototype, such that the deformation and failure phenomenon observed in the scaled model could be explained as same as that occurred in the prototype. Through centrifuge model tests, we can obtain the solutions for varieties of geotechnical problems, which could not be completely solved from analytical or numerical models.
