Essential to life, water is at the core of a great many Nippon Koei projects. We are involved in providing services related to almost all facets of the water cycle---about the only thing we don't do is control the rainfall! We undertake comprehensive integrated water resource master plans and individual infrastructure projects for dams, water supply schemes of all types, hydro-electric power stations, and flood control. Integrated master planning
Nippon Koei has prepared more than 50 comprehensive water resource plans for large river basins in many parts of the world as well as nationwide plans for Korea and Malaysia. Our strength is our awareness of the big picture and, therefore, ability to devise integrated plans that optimize the use of a basin or region's finite water resources. Even in undertaking superficially single-purpose projects, such as the recent Cagayan River Flood Control Project in the Philippines, we take into account the many interactions between competing water users. We take this integrated approach very seriously indeed, and we recognize that environmental flows and inland navigation, for example, are just as legitimate uses for water as power generation and water supply.
Dams are indispensable
Without dams, the ability to use water resources would be limited and the capacity for economic development severely restricted; the role of dams in flood control also provides the security for development of downstream portions of river basins. Nippon Koei is therefore proud of its long history of involvement in dam design and construction. We have worked with all types and sizes of dams for specific and multi-purpose projects alike. We remain at the forefront of dam engineering technology and give full regard to the environmental and social dimensions of dam construction.
From drop to drip
While most of the water we consume falls to earth as raindrops, concentrates in rivers, and is stored in dams, it must ultimately be delivered to end users. Nippon Koei is experienced in the design and construction of water distribution systems ranging from mighty canals and pipelines to the smallest drip irrigation project. Even after it has been used, the cycle of water is not complete; thus Nippon Koei is also an accomplished provider of services in the field of wastewater management.
