Climate Change

  • Nippon Koei is... fighting for the planet

    There is no more compelling environmental issue facing the world today than global warming. Resulting from the excessive emission of greenhouse gases, global warming is predicted to cause rises in ocean levels and major climatic shifts, possibly within the next 50 to 100 years. The potential effects on mankind are far-reaching, ranging from loss of coastal land and island states to desertification and large changes in the global balance of food supply and demand.

  • Ideally qualified

    Nippon Koei is the ideal choice to assist with projects designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We have a strong technical background in all the key fields: renewable energy, rural and watershed management, environmental planning, transportation, waste management, carbon sequestration, institutional strengthening, and capacity building. We also have a dedicated team of specialists keeping up-to-date with greenhouse issues such as the Kyoto Protocol and emission trading schemes.

  • Putting theory into practice

    We have already undertaken a number of case studies on projects that could potentially qualify for the clean development mechanism or joint implementation provisions of the Kyoto Protocol. Uncertainty over the future directions of emission regulation means that opportunities for minimizing greenhouse gas emission need to be explored and fully documented at every opportunity.
    This is especially important in fields in which Nippon Koei is active and possesses state of the art expertise:
    ■ Increasing the efficiency of fossil-fuel based technologies with solutions such as combined
    cycle gas power plants and enhanced energy use efficiency for enterprises;
    ■ Adoption of renewable energy (hydro, solar, wind, biomass) over fossil fuels;
    ■ Afforestation and conservation farming;
    ■ Waste management technologies that minimize greenhouse gas emissions
    (including methane from waste decomposition as an energy source);
    ■ Facilitating a modal shift in the transport sector from road to rail and ships.

  • Seriously committed

    Nippon Koei is actively working with governments in developing countries and the public and private sectors in Japan and abroad to offer high quality services that make a serious contribution to greenhouse gas abatement. We regard this as not just a business opportunity or a responsibility, but as our solemn and sincere duty to the planet.
